I was introduced to avocado toast as a teenager. I took one bite and was instantly–and forever–in love. This easy recipe for Avocado Toast is a staple at many brunch spots, including my house. It amazes me that Avocado Toast sells so well at restaurants because it is so incredibly easy to make at home.
The beautiful part about this easy recipe for avocado toast is that it can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. And because it’s loaded with good fat, it will keep you feeling satisfied for hours.
There are three main aspects to this easy recipe for avocado toast—a perfectly ripe avocado, toasted artisan bread, and either fresh butter or extra virgin olive oil. Sprinkle on some salt and pepper and you’re done. Because of its simplicity, all of the ingredients need to be the best quality possible. If I’m making this easy recipe for avocado toast on a Tuesday morning before a workout, I will toast a piece of Ezequiel bread and drizzle it with extra virgin olive oil. If I’m making this for Sunday brunch, however, I’ll use a chewy sourdough bread slathered with fresh butter. If you use olive oil, use a premium cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. If you use butter, use fresh premium butter. (If it’s been open in your fridge for a month, it will taste stale. This wine pairing with avocado toast is a treat. Go ahead and splurge!)
Opening an avocado at its peak is a learned skill. If you hold an avocado in the palm of your hand and gently squeeze, it should yield to the pressure. If it doesn’t, it’s not ripe. If it feels mushy, it’s overripe. Be sure to press with your palm and not your fingertips, as your fingertips can cause bruising.
